America Wants to See Health Care Bill

A quick trip around Hannity's America...

Show Me the Bill!

We told you Tuesday about Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus' refusal to post the Democrats' health care bill online, saying that it will be "too difficult." Well, a new poll shows that Chairman Baucus' decision won't go over too well with the American people.

Rasmussen Reports shows that a whopping 83 percent of Americans think that legislation should be posted online before it is voted on by Congress. Among those, 64 percent think Americans should have two weeks or more to look at the legislation before it becomes law.

Here's a question for the Democrats: Americans want to know about the legislation that may govern their lives, so why are you so afraid to let them see it?

Change of Heart

If you thought left-wing novelist and actor Gore Vidal was tough on George W. Bush, wait until you hear what he has to say about Barack Obama.

In a rambling interview with the Times of London, Vidal says that so far Obama has performed "dreadfully." He says he regrets supporting his nomination for president and that, "He's inexperienced. He has a total inability to understand military matters." He even predicts that thanks to President Obama, "We'll have a military dictatorship fairly soon."

Some pretty harsh words coming from a guy that used to be one of President Obama's biggest fans.

Evidence Uncovered?

Calls for an investigation into the Countrywide VIP mortgage program are heating back up in Washington.

We have reported for months that Senators Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad both received sweetheart mortgage deals through the so-called Friends of Angelo program. And although they were cleared by the Senate Ethics Committee in August, it has now been revealed that Countrywide may have recorded phone conversations during the deal-making process.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that audio recordings were in fact destroyed, and that news is not sitting well with Congressman Darrell Issa. At a House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday, Issa urged Chairman Edolphus Towns to subpoena Bank of American to turn over their records and their recordings related to the VIP loan program:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REP. DARRELL ISSA, R-CALIF.: Underpinnings of good government require that government officials when they take an oath to their city, their state or our country, in fact, operate without an agenda bought and paid for by public or private money.

Mr. Chairman, I challenge you today either to issue a subpoena to Bank of America to get those records or allow this committee to have an open vote so the people of America can understand that in fact this is an important issue. It is not a side issue. It is at the crux of this very investigation.

Sounds like this could be another speed bump in the way of Chris Dodd's road to re-election.

Ra-Ra Reds

New York's Empire State Building is celebrating, but you won't believe what the folks over there are so excited about.

The Empire State Building was lit up red and yellow Wednesday night to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China — you know, the Communist state founded by Mao Tse-tung that has made it a habit to threaten, torture and kill its own people?

Pretty unbelievable.

Here's a glimpse at the event at the Empire State Building:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOSEPH BELLINA, GENERAL MANAGER, EMPIRE STATE BLDG.: Lighting the Empire State Building's tower represents our highest honor and we are proud that the red and gold lights will illuminate the sky tonight and serve as a beacon of unity between our countries and our people.

I wonder when we get to celebrate North Korea and Cuba?

What an absurd tradition.
