The Department of Public Safety says the death toll has reached seven from today's adult day care center van wreck in Starr County.

The van — carrying ten people — and a car collided on Highway 83 near Alto Bonito.

Authorities now say the driver of the car and a child with her were hurt.

DPS says the smaller vehicle failed to yield to the van and the car driver is facing multiple counts of negligent homicide.

Five van occupants died at the scene, and another two died later at hospitals. The other three people in the van were hurt.

Some of the van victims were ejected. Authorities are investigating whether they wore seat belts.

Names of the victims weren't immediately released.

The van was from La Fuente Home Health Services in Sullivan City.

The company didn't immediately return a call for comment.
