ST PETERSBURG, Florida (Reuters) - Ben Zobrist and the Tampa Bay Rays have reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension, the team said on Friday.
The 28-year-old Zobrist, a second baseman who has spent his entire five-year major league career with the Rays, hit .297 with 27 home runs, 91 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 2009.
"He's always upbeat," twice All-Star Evan Longoria said of team mate Zobrist on the club's website (http://tampabay.rays.mlb.com).
"He's got a great attitude. He loves being at the baseball field."
The first three years of the extension are guaranteed, with the team holding options for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
