Bronx, NY – The New York Yankees placed infielder Jayson Nix on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand and recalled pitcher Preston Claiborne from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Nix suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch from Toronto's R.A. Dickey during Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
The veteran utilityman missed nearly a month with a right hamstring strain before returning to action in late July. In 87 games this season, Nix is batting .236 with three home runs and 24 RBI.
Claiborne is 0-1 with a 2.74 ERA in 35 relief appearances for the Yankees this season.
