CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Reuters) - Tiger Woods missed the cut for only the sixth time as a professional after carding a woeful second-round 79, seven over, at the Quail Hollow Championship on Friday.

The world number one was sent packing from the PGA Tour event after recording a nine-over total of 153.

It is the first time the American has missed the cut since last year's British Open, and the first time on home soil since the 2006 U.S. Open.

Woods is playing his second tournament since taking a five-month break from golf following revelations about his extra-marital affairs.
