Woods misses cut at PGA

Tiger Woods' struggles continued on Friday.

Woods, a four-time PGA Champion, faltered to a three-over 73 and finished 36 holes at Atlanta Athletic Club at 10-over 150. He will miss the cut by six shots if the current number stays put.

It was Woods' first missed cut in a major since the 2009 British Open Championship and his first ever in this, his 14th PGA Championship.

Woods' game is clearly in disarray.

After he missed the last two majors this year healing from a leg injury, Woods didn't contend last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, an event he won seven times, and this week was much more of a disaster.

Woods birdied three of his first five holes Thursday morning and briefly held the lead. He then imploded en route to a seven-over 77, his worst first-round score in a major and his worst score ever at the PGA.

On Friday, while the score was better, Woods sprayed the ball all over the course. Some balls missed well left, like at 12 where he hit two balls into the woods, and some balls missed right, like at the last when his drive landed in a bunker and his second in the water.

This missed cut also guaranteed that Woods won't make the FedExCup Playoffs in two weeks unless he entered the field next week at Wyndham Championship. He had 30 minutes after the end of the second round to enter the field and try and earn enough points to qualify for the Playoffs, but he indicated that he wouldn't do that.

Woods has never traditionally played the Fall Series events, so it's possible Woods won't play on the PGA Tour again until 2012.

Woods is scheduled to play in Shanghai in November and reports suggested he was playing in Australia before The Presidents Cup. Woods won't make the American team on points, but captain Fred Couples stated last week that he will select Woods with one of his picks, if Woods wants to play.

At this point, it would be a big "if." Woods may decide to ask Couples not to offer him a spot, or Couples could back off his stance and go in a different direction.

No matter what, this PGA Championship was one Woods will soon try to forget.

Woods hosts his own unofficial event in the winter and will most likely play that.
