Wong leads by 1 at PC Financial Open

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Eugene Wong posted a 5-under 67 on Friday and moved one stroke clear of the field after two rounds of the inaugural PC Financial Open.

Wong, who was one of three first-round co-leaders, ended 36 holes at 11-under- par 133.

John Catlin carded his second straight 67 on Friday and he was joined in second place at minus-10 by Kelvin Day, who matched Wong's 66 in round two at Point Grey Golf and Country Club.

Chris Parra shot 5-under 67 on Friday. He shares fourth at minus-8 with Seann Harlingten (68), Joel Dahmen (70), Brad Clapp (69) and Mario Clemens (70). Dahmen and Clemens shared the first-round lead with Wong.

Wong, who is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour Canada, started his second round on the 11th and parred his opening hole. He followed with three straight birdies from the 12th to jump to minus-9.

After three pars in a row, Wong birdied the par-5 18th and followed with an eagle on the par-5 first. He then birdied the par-4 third to move to 13-under.

Wong stumbled down the stretch with bogeys at the sixth and eighth to slip back to minus-11.

Catlin had three birdies on the front nine. He notched three more on the inward nine, but also tripped to a bogey on No. 13.

Day had four birdies and a bogey in his first eight holes. After making the turn at 7-under, Day collected three more birdies between the first and the ninth to move into a share of second place.

NOTES: Both of Wong's wins came in the 2012 PGA Tour Canada season ... The cut line fell at 2-under-par 142 with 67 players moving on to the weekend ... Among those that missed the cut were the two amateurs in the field -- Chris Hemmerich and Stuart MacDonald -- as well as Bryn Parry, Wes Homan, Adam Cornelson, James Allenby and Derek Gillespie.
