Witness at Ohio trial: Man accused of operating multimillion-dollar fraud scammed Heat players

A witness at an Ohio trial says a man accused of operating a multimillion real-estate fraud also ripped off Miami Heat players.

The testimony came Thursday in Columbus. The Columbus Dispatch reports that a federal judge denied bond to Haider Zafar, saying he is a flight risk.

Zafar is awaiting trial on wire fraud and other charges. Prosecutors say Zafar swindled a businessman out of $10 million. The basketball players aren't part of this suit.

Zafar's attorney says they will challenge the charges.

The witness, international-investment attorney Andrew Fine, says former forward Mike Miller was among the Florida residents who invested $8 million with Zafar.

A person with knowledge of the case told The Associated Press that the other players are forward Rashard Lewis and guard James Jones. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because it's an active investigation.
