Wilson tweets extension with Leafs

Ron Wilson asked Santa for a contract extension and got what he asked for on Sunday.

Wilson, 56, took to the social media outlet Twitter on Friday to make his case for a new deal, saying, "This Xmas could be better if Santa stuffs a certain piece of paper in my stocking."

After a off-hand comment identifying himself with George Bailey of "It's a Wonderful Life," Wilson revealed the two parties have reached an agreement.

"He came! He came!" Remember saying that as a little kid? Well he did: I got a new Red Ryder BB gun and a contract extension!," Wilson wrote.

Wilson, in the last year of a four-year contract, has Toronto in second place in the Northeast Division with an 18-13-4 record. He is 119-120-42 during his tenure with the Leafs, and has not ended their playoff drought.

They have not been to the postseason since the 2003-04 campaign.

Wilson has also coached the Sharks, Capitals and Ducks, compiling a 637-566-169 record.
