White Sox beat Royals to take weekend set

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Conor Gillaspie hit the go-ahead two-run single in a five-run sixth inning which propelled the Chicago White Sox over Kansas City by a 5-3 count on Sunday.

Adam LaRoche and Tyler Flowers also knocked in runs during the deciding frame for the White Sox, who swept the brief set on Sunday thanks to a 3-2 victory in the completion of Friday's suspended contest to win this rain-shortened three-game series.

John Danks (1-2) lasted six full frames and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out eight. David Robertson closed things out on a scoreless ninth for his third save.

"We came to the ballpark to win two and we got it done," Danks said.

Alex Gordon clubbed a two-run homer and Mike Moustakas drove in the other run for the Royals, who had won a brawl-marred, 3-2 decision in Thursday's 13- inning opener.

Edinson Volquez (2-2) allowed five runs -- one earned -- on five hits across 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Chicago finally broke through in the sixth. Adam Eaton singled, Melky Cabrera walked, the former advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a Moustakas error that allowed Jose Abreu to reach and left runners on first and second.

"Ninety-nine times out of 100 times, I make that play. The one time I don't make it, they score five," Moustakas said.

LaRoche followed with an RBI single, Avisail Garcia added a hit to load the bases before Gillaspie put the Sox ahead with a two-run single. Jason Frasor entered and was greeted by a run-scoring hit by Flowers before Micah Johnson was retired on a grounder to first.

Cabrera made a leaping catch to rob Eric Hosmer of extra bases to end the eighth and keep Zach Duke's ledger clean. Robertson gave up hits to Gordon and Paulo Orlando, but induced a game-ending grounder to short from Omar Infante.

Kansas City got on the board in the third, when Infante doubled with one down and scored on a two-out double from Moustakas.

In the fourth, Kendrys Morales singled, moved up on Danks' failed pickoff throw and Gordon followed with a two-run shot over the wall in right.

The White Sox had two on with none out in the home half, but failed to score when LaRoche flied out and Garcia lined into an inning-ending double play.
