Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Edinson Volquez has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his five-game suspension Monday.
Volquez was one of four Royals suspended for their roles in a brawl against the Chicago White Sox last week. In addition to Volquez, starting pitcher Yordano Ventura received a seven-game ban and reliever Kelvin Herrera and outfielder Lorenzo Cain each received two-game suspensions.
Chicago starting pitchers Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija were each suspended five games for their roles in the brawl.

Benches cleared at the end of the seventh inning after Ventura snared a comebacker from Adam Eaton and yelled an expletive at the White Sox outfielder.
Once the teams gathered on the infield, punches began to be thrown and a pileup ensued.
Volquez started Sunday's game against the White Sox and suffered the loss, allowing five runs -- one earned -- on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two, falling to 2-2 with a 1.91 ERA this season.
