Virginia Commonwealth tops UNC Wilmington 79-70

Joey Rodriguez scored 25 points as Virginia Commonwealth won its ninth consecutive game, beating North Carolina-Wilmington 79-70 Saturday night.
Rodriguez made two 3-pointers, and Ed Nixon and Bradford Burgess each hit one as the Rams (18-5, 10-1 Colonial Athletic Association) built a 15-5 lead less than 5 minutes into the game. They led by at least six the rest of the first half, which ended with the Rams ahead 42-31.
The Rams widened their lead to 17 points, 67-50, with 8:27 to go before the Seahawks (10-12, 4-7) began to whittle it down. After making 10 of 20 first-half shots from 3-point range, VCU was 1 of 9 outside the arc in the second.

Bradford finished with 17 points and Nixon 16 for the Rams, who have won 22 straight at home.
Trevor Deloach scored 20 points, Chad Tomko 15 and Ahmad Grant 14 for UNC Wilmington, which committed 18 turnovers to the Rams' eight.
