Vinci out at Monterrey Open

Monterrey, Mexico – Top-seeded Italian Roberta Vinci was a round loser at the $220,000 Monterrey Open on Wednesday.

Vinci fell to Russian Nina Bratchikova 7-5, 7-5 in 1 hour, 21 minutes on the hardcourts at Sierra Madre Tennis Club.

Fellow Italian Sara Errani faired better. The tournament's second seed breezed past France's Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-3.

Also winners on Wednesday were eight-seeded Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain, who downed Russia's Valeria Savinykh 6-4, 6-2, and Romanian Alexandra Cadantu, who got past Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 in 1 hour, 56 minutes.

This week's champion will claim $37,000.
