Promising Brit Laura Robson upset second- seeded Italian favorite Roberta Vinci in Thursday's second-round action at the $220,000 Italiacom Open.

The 18-year-old Robson doused Vinci in 6-3, 7-5 fashion on the red clay at Country Time Club.

Meanwhile, third-seeded German Julia Goerges received a walkover into the quarterfinals when Hungarian qualifier Katalin Marosi pulled out of their scheduled second-rounder, citing a right shoulder injury.

Also, fifth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro got past Anna Tatishvili, 6-1, 3-2, as the Georgian retired on Day 4, and eighth-seeded Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova overcame American Julia Cohen 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Friday's quarterfinals will pit top-seeded Italian Sara Errani against Romanian Alexandra Cadantu; Goerges versus Zahlavova Strycova; Suarez Navarro against Robson; and Spaniard Estrella Cabeza Candela versus Romanian Irina- Camelia Begu.

Last month's surprise French Open runner-up Errani was the 2008 Palermo champion and 2009 runner-up.
