TEMPE, Ariz. – Vernon Wells hit his fourth spring training home run and Mike Trout had a two-run triple to back C.J. Wilson on Sunday in the Los Angeles Angels' 7-4 win over a San Diego Padres' split squad.
Wells hit a two-run homer in the fourth on a slider from Freddy Garcia to put the Angels ahead 5-1. Wells went 2 for 2 and is batting .423 (11 for 26).
Trout, the AL Rookie of the Year, tripled in the third.
Wilson allowed one run and five hits in 5 1-3 innings. Making his fifth spring training start, Garcia, wearing a green Padres cap on St. Patrick's Day, gave up six runs and six hits in five innings with four strikeouts.
San Diego third baseman Chase Headley left the game in the second inning because of a jammed left thumb.
