Head men's basketball coach Scott Cross agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him at the University of Texas at Arlington through the 2015-16 season

"We are pleased to announce that Coach Cross has agreed to an extension to stay at UT Arlington," director of intercollegiate athletics Jim Baker said. "Scott has done an outstanding job of building the UT Arlington program over the last six years. We look forward to him continuing to lead the Mavericks in the years to come."

The 37-year-old Cross led the Mavericks to a 24-9 mark last season, including a 15-1 record and first-place finish in the Southland Conference's West Division. However, the Mavericks were upended in the conference tourney by McNeese State.

UTA was selected to the National Invitation Tournament, but fell to Washington in the first round.

"I want to thank UT Arlington president James Spaniolo and Jim Baker for their commitment to me and the Maverick Basketball program over the next several years," Cross said. "UT Arlington is an exciting place to be right now with the opening of the College Park Center this past season and our move to the WAC and I appreciate the opportunity I have been given here as the head coach."

Cross has led the school to a 103-82 overall record (54-42 in the Southland) since taking the reins in 2006.
