UEFA fines Germany, Portugal

UEFA fined Germany and Portugal on Thursday for incidents during their Euro 2012 Group B opener last Saturday.

Germany was fined $12,600 for the "throwing of missiles by its supporters" and Portugal was fined $6,300 for a "delayed kick off to the second half."

Germany edged Portugal, 1-0, in the match on a goal from Mario Gomez.

The Germans also won their second game over the Netherlands, 2-1, and lead the group with six points. The Portuguese edged Denmark, 3-2, in their second game and are second in the group on three points.

Denmark also has three points and is third, following by the Netherlands.

Germany plays Denmark and Portugal plays the Netherlands on Sunday in the last round of group matches and all four teams are still alive for a knockout spot.
