Twins send P Marquis to minors

The Minnesota Twins optioned right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis to Double-A New Britain on Wednesday.

Marquis signed a one-year, $3 million contract in December but missed time during spring training after his daughter was hurt in a bicycle accident.

He is 104-98 in 326 career games -- including 267 starts -- and was 8-6 in 23 games for Arizona and Washington last season.

The Twins also placed right-handed pitcher Scott Baker on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to March 27) with a right elbow strain.

Among the other moves made by the Twins before Wednesday's MLB deadline to set rosters, infielder Sean Burroughs and pitcher Jared Burton were called up from Triple-A Rochester and activated.
