Detroit, MI – Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Brian Duensing was forced to leave Wednesday's 5-1 loss against Detroit in the fifth inning after being hit by a line drive on the left ankle.
Alex Avila led off the inning by sending a line drive that deflected off Duensing's ankle. Catcher Joe Mauer picked up the ball and threw to first base for the out, but Duensing remained on the ground grimacing in pain.
Duensing, who gingerly walked off the field and was replaced by Kyle Waldrop, had x-rays, which turned up negative. He was diagnosed with a bruised left ankle.
Prior to departing, Duensing gave up four hits and a pair of runs over 4 1/3 innings.
