HOUSTON – Baylor's Josh Turley scattered seven hits in a complete-game 3-2 victory over Rice in the Houston Regional on Saturday night.
Turley (4-5) gave up two runs and struck out seven as Baylor (31-26) moves on to the regional final Sunday. The Bears will next play the winner of the California-Rice elimination game.
Austin Kubitza (6-5) gave up three runs and five hits in 7 1-3 innings for Rice (42-20), the No. 8 national seed.
Baylor scored all of its runs in the first three innings, while Rice got two in the sixth. The Owls threatened in the seventh and eighth innings, putting two on with two outs, but Turley induced groundouts both times.
Max Muncy was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead Baylor, while Anthony Rendon was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Rice.
