Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and former Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych were quarterfinal winners Thursday at the $550,000 Winston-Salem Open, a final U.S. Open tune-up.
The Frenchman Tsonga cruised past Marcel Granollers in the evening session, besting the sixth-seeded Spaniard in 6-1, 6-2 fashion.
Up next for Tsonga will be defending champion John Isner. The third-seeded American posted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory over Belgian David Goffin. The North Carolina native Isner beat Frenchman Julien Benneteau in last year's finale here.
Earlier, a second-seeded Berdych overcame capable Belgian Steve Darcis 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 on the hardcourts at Wake Forest University.
The Czech slugger Berdych will meet seventh-seeded American favorite Sam Querrey in Friday's semifinals. Querrey, who titled in Los Angeles last month, upended fourth-seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Querrey has won 13 of his last 16 matches and leads the U.S. Open Series standings.
The 2012 Winston-Salem champion will collect $73,930.
