Tottenham's Van der Vaart tears hamstring

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart will be sidelined for six weeks with a torn hamstring suffered in last week's English Premier League match against Manchester City.

Van der Vaart, 28, suffered the injury in his left leg in the later stages of the 5-1 loss to City at White Hart Lane. The Netherlands international missed an 11-0 win over San Marino on Friday in Euro qualifying and will be out until the middle of October.

"An MRI scan has confirmed that Rafael van der Vaart has suffered a hamstring tear," Tottenham released in a statement.

Van der Vaart will miss Premier League games against Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Wigan and Arsenal. Spurs have lost both league matches this season.
