Valencia, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - An 80th-minute goal from Fernando Torres salvaged a 2-2 draw for Atletico Madrid at Levante on Sunday, edging the club closer to securing third place in La Liga.
David Barral's 32nd-minute opener for Levante was canceled out three minutes later by Atletico's Guilherme Siqueira. Kalu Uche restored Levante's lead in the 63rd, but Torres allowed Atletico to leave with a point when he scored 10 minutes from time.
The result moves Atletico four points clear of fourth-place Valencia, while the point is also useful for Levante as it moves the team five points clear of the relegation places with two matches remaining.
Levante goalkeeper Diego Marino produced a fine double save on Mario Mandzukic and Arda Turan to deny Atletico the opening goal, while Levante took advantage of a failed clearance from Miranda as Ivan Lopez collected the loose ball and fed Barral for a tap in.
However, the hosts were guilty of a defensive error themselves a few minutes later when Victor Camarasa's pass was cut out by Tiago Mendes, who crossed for Siqueira to score his first goal for the team.
A deflected cross from Lopez led to Levante regaining the lead as the ball fell to Uche in front of goal, and he scored at the second time of asking after his initial effort was stopped by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
But once again the visitors had a reply and they claimed a point in the 80th minute when Koke's corner kick was driven to the near post for Torres, who got up to redirect the ball past Marino in the Levante net.
Also in La Liga on Sunday, Joel Campbell's first-half goal handed Villarreal a 1-0 victory over Elche, while Malaga claimed a 2-1 result over Almeria.
Sunday's final fixture saw Celta Vigo and Sevilla play to a 1-1 draw.
