Portland, OR – The Portland Timbers acquired defender Kosuke Kimura from the Colorado Rapids on Thursday in exchange for allocation money and an international roster slot for the rest of the year.
The 28-year-old Kimura spent six seasons with Colorado, playing in 117 matches after he was drafted by the club. He helped the Rapids win the 2010 MLS Cup.
"This is a move that gives us flexibility as we work with our roster and prepare for the rest of the season and beyond," said Rapids technical director Paul Bravo. "This was an incredibly difficult decision for us, considering the wonderful service Kosuke has given us both on and off the field since he arrived here in 2007.
"He is a class act and we wish him success in Portland."
Kimura played in 12 matches this season for Colorado.
Portland visits Real Salt Lake on Saturday for its next match. Colorado visits Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday for its next game.
