Tigers continue to roll with 10th straight win
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}More than a week after the Tigers started their winning streak with a sweep of the White Sox, they haven't slowed down.
Detroit got four hits and three RBI from Ryan Raburn in a 14-4 rout of Chicago, extending its winning streak to 10 games and reducing its magic number for clinching the AL Central to five.
The Tigers pounded out 21 hits -- getting three from Delmon Young and Brandon Inge -- to notch their first 10-game winning streak since 1968, when the club won 11 in a row.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}"Our goal has been to go out and win every ballgame," Inge said. "That's the key for us, because we know if we win every ballgame no one can catch us."
Detroit began its current streak with a three-game sweep of the Sox from September 2-4, which ended with an 18-2 clobbering during which it set season highs in runs and hits.
Eight days later, not much has changed.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}All the run support made for an easy victory for Rick Porcello (14-8), who allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings.
White Sox starter John Danks (6-12) allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- in five innings to take the loss. Chicago is 11 1/2 games behind Detroit, tied with Cleveland for second-place in the division.
"I didn't do my job very good at all. I actually did a terrible job," Danks said. "But like I said, they're playing pretty good baseball, now, too. I don't know what else you can say."
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Dayan Viciedo gave the White Sox a lead with an RBI groundout in the first inning, but Detroit soon began to pile on the runs.
Victor Martinez singled to start the second, and two batters later Jhonny Peralta drilled a bite-less and elevated cutter over the wall in left-center field. Raburn followed by blasting a first-pitch curveball, which Danks left over the plate, over the left field wall for a 3-1 lead.
Another run-scoring grounder pulled the White Sox within a run in the home half, but the Tigers tacked on two more in the third. With runners in scoring position and one out, Alex Avila drove in Young with a grounder and Peralta singled in Miguel Cabrera.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}It got worse for Danks, who allowed an RBI single to Young in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth.
With Avila on second after a double, Raburn doubled, moved to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch to make it an 8-2 game.
Josh Kinney took over in the sixth, when a string of singles turned the game into a rout. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Cabrera, Martinez and Avila had consecutive RBI base hits.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Raburn singled in a run two batters later, and Ramon Santiago's bases-loaded double later in the inning made it a 14-2 contest. Kinney allowed every run.
Brent Morel hit homers in the seventh and ninth innings to complete the scoring.
