Tigers' Cabrera named AL player of the week
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has been named the American League player of the week for the period ending Sept. 16.
Cabrera batted .407 (11-for-27) with three home runs in six games. The slugger led the majors with 22 total bases while driving in seven runs.
Others considered for the award included Seattle infielder Kyle Seager, Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters and New York closer Rafael Soriano.
