Thieves stole a red bicycle commemorating the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali on the campus of a Louisville college.
Spalding University reported the theft in a tweet Friday that also contained an urgent appeal, Fox 41 reports.
“Our tribute to Muhmmad Ali has disappeared,” the university said. “Please help us locate the red bicycle we hung from our University Center (formerly Columbia Gym) in his honor.”
Columbia Gym is where Ali’s boxing career began when he was 12 years ago—all because of a bike, the station reported.
“He left his bike outside and someone stole his bike and he went inside and said, 'I'm going to whoop somebody,'" Spalding president Tori Murden McClure said. “He ran into a police officer Joe Martin who said if you're going to beat somebody you better learn how to box.”
The boxer known as “The Greatest” was 74 when he died June 3 in Arizona after battling Parkinson’s.
