Brittney Reese (Gulfport, Miss.) and Ryan Whiting (Harrisburg, Pa.) each recorded meet records and world-leading marks in their respective events to open the IAAF Diamond League season on May 10 in Doha, Qatar. Reigning Olympic champion Reese posted a personal best leap of 7.25 meters to win the women's long jump, while Whiting also set a personal best with a mark of 22.28 meters in men's shot put. Meanwhile, Dawn Harper-Nelson (East St. Louis, Ill.) won the women's 100-meter hurdles in a world-leading time of 12.60 seconds. Olympic medalists Michael Tinsley (Little Rock, Ark.), Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Justin Gatlin (Woodham, Fla.) all also earned medals in the men's 400 hurdles, the men's triple jump and the men's 100m, respectively. Olympian and IAAF Female Athlete of the Year, Allyson Felix (Santa Clara, Calif.), secured second with a time of 50.19 in the 400.

JORGENSEN GOLDEN AGAIN

Just three weeks after her historic win in San Diego, Gwen Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) raced her way to another gold medal at the International Triathlon Union World Triathlon event on May 11 in Yokohama, Japan. Jorgensen clocked a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes, 5 seconds on the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10K run course en route to her fourth series podium finish. Her back-to-back wins have secured her the top spot in the ITU World Triathlon Series standings. In the men's race, Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) finished in 1 hour, 47 minutes, 59 seconds.

BOXING

Light flyweight Daniel Gonzalez (Moreno Valley, Calif.), light bantamweight Shakur Stevenson (Newark, N.J.) and heavyweight Pano Tiatia (St. George, Utah) each earned gold medals at the Victory Day Tournament on May 12 in Uman, Ukraine. Team USA took home a total of 10 medals from its first major international event of the Junior World Team Open.

Making her international debut, fifteen-year-old Caitlin Orosco (Anaheim, Calif.) was named Outstanding Boxer of the Tournament after winning the pinweight gold medal at the Pirkka Tournament, held May 4-5, in Tampere, Finland. Meanwhile, featherweight Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.), flyweight Nysja Barrientes (Las Vegas, Nev.), bantamweight Jessica Galvez (Sparks, Nev.) and lightweight Iesha Kenney (Alexandria, Va.), also emerged victorious.

BOWLING

Lennie Boresch Jr. (Kenosha, Wis.) posted a strong comeback win at the PBA50 Miller High Life Classic on May 8 in Mooresville, N.C. Trailing by more than 30 pins halfway through the title match, Boresch fought hard to win by one pin and secure his second career PBA50 tour title.

CANOE/KAYAK

Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) won the bronze medal in the women's K2 1,000-meter race at the 2013 ICF Sprint World Cup No. 1, held May 10-12, in Szeged, Hungary. The pair finished with a time of 3:54.966, 1.008 seconds behind the first-place finisher. The pair also finished second in the K2 500 B final. Meanwhile, 2012 Olympian Tim Hornsby (Atlanta, Ga.) placed sixth in the men's K1 200 B final and kayaker Ryan Dolan (Kailua, Hawaii) posted two sixth-place finishes in the 200 C and K1 500 B finals.

CYCLING

The USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar completed its ninth event of the calendar as riders contested the Tour de Grove on May 11 in St. Louis. Erica Allar (Tuscon, Ariz.) won a 30-rider sprint to the finish line to increase her lead in the NCC women's standings with 307 points. Meanwhile, Shane Kline (Bally, Pa.), improved to third place in the men's standings with 368 points and Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass.) placed second to move back into the top five with 285 points.

Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev.) won the supercross on May 11 in the second round of the 2013 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, held May 11. Fields, who won every lap he raced throughout the weekend finished with a time of 32.008 seconds.

Zeke Mostov (San Francisco, Calif.) finished second and topped the best young rider classification at the Internationale 3-Etappen-Rundfahrt der Rad- Junioren, held May 10-12, in Lang Bergen, Germany. Riding for USA Cycling's National Development Program juniors team, Mostov helped his team finish third in the team classification.

DIVING

London 2102 Olympic medalists David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.), captured silver medals in the 10-meter and 3-meter events at the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix, held May 9-12, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Boudia finished with 518.60 points to earn a podium spot while Dumais scored 474.50 points en route to the silver. Competing in their first international individual finals, Murphy Bromberg (Bexley, Ohio) and Amanda Burke (Southampton, Pa.) finished fourth and fifth in the women's 10-meter and 3- meter events.

FENCING

Soren Thompson (San Diego, Calif.), was the last U.S. competitor remaining at the Grand Prix Men's Epee Tournament in Berne, Switzerland. He fought hard, but was eliminated in the round of 32.

ICE HOCKEY

John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 30 saves as the U.S. Men's National Team defeated Germany, 3-0, in preliminary round play of the 2013 IIHF Men's World Championship on May 12 in Helsinki., Bobby Butler (Marlborough, Mass.), Paul Stastny (St. Louis, Mo.) and Stephen Gionta (Rochester, N.Y.) all scored goals as the team improved to 5-0-0-1and advanced to the quarterfinals.

RUGBY

Zach Test (Redwood City, Calif.) was named player of the tournament following the plate final of the IRB London Sevens Men's Invitational, held May 11-2. He is the first U.S. player to receive the award. The United States team finished the tournament with a 4-3 mark to secure sixth place.

The women's sevens squad defeated Spain, 15-7, to advance to the semifinals of the London Sevens Women's Invitational, before eventually losing to Australia, 28-7. The U.S placed fourth in the tournament.

SHOOTING

Olympian Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.) earned his second trip to the prone rifle final of the ISSF World Cup series after placing seventh at the world cup, held May 5-13, in Ft. Benning, Ga. Will Brown (Twin Falls, Idaho) claimed gold in the men's 10-meter air pistol and Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) won silver in the men's 10-meter air rifle event.

SWIMMING

London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Anthony Ervin (Valencia, Calif.) won both the 50-meter freestyle and the 100 freestyle at the Arena Grand Prix, held May 9-12, in Charlotte, N.C. He completed the sprint-distance sweep on the final night of competition, winning the 100 with a time of 49.14 seconds. In the final event, Connor Jaeger (Fair Haven, N.J.) earned his second meet record and third victory of the weekend with a time of 15:02.68 in the 1,500 freestyle. He was also victorious in the 400 and 800 freestyle events. In the women's races, Kathleen Baker (Charlotte, N.C.) set a personal record of 2:14.46 to win the 200 individual medley, while Megan Romano (St. Petersburg, Fla.) finished first in the 100 freestyle.

TRACK & FIELD

Matt Tegenkamp finished third with a time of 1:14:43 at the USA 25 km Championships on May 11 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Tera Moody St. Charles (Ill.) finished third with at time of 1:26:12.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Jenny Arthur (Gainesville, Ga.) totaled 214 kg. in a three-for-six performance to capture the silver medal in the 75 kg. division at the 2013 Junior World Championships, held May 3-11, in Lima, Peru. Competing in the 75+ kg. division, Marissa Klingseis (St. Charles, Mo.) totaled a personal record 229 kg. to secure the bronze medal in a six-for-six performance. Overall, she set six personal records en route to the podium.

WRESTLING

Olympian Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) went 3-0 to help the United States finish second in the Curby Cup in Lagrange, Ill. The United States beat Serbia and Cup champion Hungary, but lost to Lithuania in the Greco-Roman event. Hungary won via tiebreaker after three teams finished with identical 2-1 records.
