Lawrence Johnson-Danner, Kevin Galloway and Travele Jones led a balanced attack with 15 points apiece as Texas Southern defeated Alcorn State 79-66 on Thursday night.

The Tigers (4-9, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) made a 47-30 rebounding advantage pay off at the free-throw line, where they sank 33 of 40 shots. Jones led Texas Southern by making 9 of 11 free throws.

Daniel King had 11 rebounds before fouling out for Texas Southern, which was particularly effective on the offensive glass where they grabbed 21 rebounds.

Harrison Smith provided a boost for the Tigers, scoring 13 points in 13 minutes off the bench. He was Texas Southern's only other player in double figures.

Marquis Baker scored 19 points and Kendrick McDonald added 13 for Alcorn State, but the Braves (0-12, 0-2) made only 13 of 23 at the free-throw line.

Texas Southern led 29-25 at halftime.
