Swansea signs defender Bartley from Arsenal

Swansea City signed defender Kyle Bartley from Arsenal on Friday on a three-year contract.

Bartley, 21, spent the last five years with Arsenal, but played just one match for the club, in the Champions League in 2009. He spent most of his time with Arsenal on loan, most recently with Rangers in Scotland.

The former England youth international was previously on loan with Sheffield Wednesday.

"I spoke to (Arsenal coach) Arsene Wenger briefly last week and he said that my game-time would be at a minimum," Bartley said. "For that reason, I wanted to at least go out on loan but when Swansea came in for me it was too good an opportunity to turn down."

Swansea opens the 2012-13 season at QPR on Saturday.
