Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Three days after being fired as manager of the Chicago Cubs, Dale Sveum has found work. The Kansas City Royals announced Thursday that Sveum will part of skipper Ned Yost's staff for the 2014 season.
Sveum will be placed in charge of infield instruction in his new role, with the Royals to determine his in-game responsibilities at a later date.
The 49-year-old Sveum was relieved of his duties by the Cubs on Monday following a 66-96 finish to the 2013 season. Chicago went 61-101 in his first year at the helm in 2012.
Prior to being hired by the Cubs, Sveum spent six years as a coach with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2006-11. Yost, who agreed to a two-year extension with Kansas City on Tuesday, was the Brewers' manager for the first three seasons of that period.
