Gulutzan, 39, replaced Marc Crawford, who was fired when the Stars missed the playoffs, finishing last in the Pacific Division with a 42-29-11 record.
"Glen is a young, exciting coach who we believe has a bright and long future in the National Hockey League," Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said in a statement.
"We were pleased with his development skills and the leadership he brought our young players at the American League level."
