Dundee, Scotland – There was plenty of action at Tannadice Park on Sunday as St. Mirren emerged victorious in a 4-3 win over Dundee United.
St. Mirren had jumped out to an early lead in the 16th minute when Paul Dummett opened the scoring, but Dundee fought back and gained the edge with two goals in the closing minutes of the first half. Jon Daly converted from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute before Stuart Armstrong put the home side in front in stoppage time.
It took the visitors just five minutes to level the score on the other side of the halftime interval as Steven Thompson got St. Mirren on level terms with his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
The Saints extended their lead in the 66th when Marc McAusland bagged his first goal of the campaign, and their road to all three points became even easier three minutes later when United's Brian McLean was sent off.
St. Mirren took advantage of the extra man with 12 minutes to go as David van Zanten produced the team's fourth goal of the match, a goal that the visitors would need to claim the win after Barry Douglas pulled one back for Dundee United in the 90th minute.
Douglas' strike failed to yield a dramatic comeback from Dundee United, which remains on 25 points after dropping two of its last three league games.
St. Mirren is unbeaten in three contests, improving to 24 points.
