Scottish Premier League clubs voted to reject newco Rangers' bid to play in the top flight for the upcoming season on Wednesday, meaning the team will apply to join the Scottish Football League.
Rangers was liquidated following financial trouble, and the other 11 SPL clubs met on Wednesday to decide if the new company would be able to take the original club's place.
But after five hours of talks, the vote did not go the way that Rangers had hoped.

An SPL spokesman said: "At today's general meeting, SPL clubs today voted overwhelmingly to reject the application from Rangers newco to join the SPL."
With its bid having been rejected, Rangers will now apply to the Scottish Football League in hopes of beginning life in either the Second or Third Division.
The newco has already seen the departure of a handful of high-profile players as Steven Whittaker, Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith have all left on free transfers.
