Sooners ride momentum from Sugar Bowl win over Alabama into spring practice

Oklahoma is still on a high after winning the Sugar Bowl.

The Sooners start spring practice Saturday, and coach Bob Stoops says the team had perhaps its best winter preparation period since he became head coach in 1999.

Trevor Knight enters the spring as the undisputed starting quarterback after his performance in the bowl game. He passed for 348 yards and four touchdowns in the 45-31 victory over Alabama, prompting Stoops to move quarterback Blake Bell, a former starter, to tight end.

While the defense returns 11 starters, the Sooners lost nearly 70 percent of both their yards receiving and rushing.

Offensive tackle Tyrus Thompson (leg), offensive guard Adam Shead (back), offensive guard Tyler Evans (knee), defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (back) and safety Julian Wilson (shoulder) will miss the spring.
