Snedeker WDs from U.S. Open; Spieth in

Brandt Snedeker pulled out of the U.S. Open because of a rib injury and was replaced in the field Monday by amateur Jordan Spieth.

Snedeker, a fully-exempt player, also withdrew from the Memorial two weeks ago.

Spieth was selected to take his place as the first alternate from the Houston sectional qualifier and will play in his first U.S. Open. The two-time U.S. Junior Amateur champion recently helped Texas win the NCAA Division I title.

The season's second major begins Thursday at San Francisco's Olympic Club.
