Baltimore, MD – The Detroit Tigers placed left-hander Drew Smyly on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right intercostal strain.
The move is retroactive to July 7.
Smyly suffered a strained rib muscle some time before the All-Star break, and when rest failed to fix the issue, the decision was made to shut him down.
In 15 games this season, the Arkansas native is 4-3 with a 4.42 earned run average.
Jacob Turner is expected to take Smyly's turn in the rotation on Tuesday.
To fill the roster spot, Detroit called up pitcher Luis Marte.
