Amsterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson will be out of action until January after he sustained an ankle injury on Saturday against Willem II.

Sigthorsson scored the first goal in the 5-0 Ajax win over Willem, but he was forced to exit the match after a heavy challenge from Willem's Ali Messaoud.

The club announced on Monday that the 24-year-old will not be available until after the mid-season break, meaning he will miss out on Wednesday's Champions League match with APOEL as well as Eredivisie contests with Utrecht, Vitesse and Excelsior.

In 14 league matches this season for Ajax Sigthorsson has tallied five goals with two assists while helping the club reside in second place, one point back of leaders PSV Eindhoven.
