Katowice, Poland (SportsNetwork.com) - Eighth-seeded Slovakian Anna Karolina Schmiedlova beat third-seeded Italian Camila Giorgi 6-4, 6-3 in Sunday's final at the Katowice Open.

Schmiedlova converted half of her 12 break-point chances and captured the first WTA title of her career. She reached her first final in February at the Rio Open, where she lost to Italian Sara Errani.

Giorgi remains in search of her first WTA title after losing in the final at this tournament for the second straight year. She knocked off No. 1 seed and Polish favorite Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals on Saturday.
