Metairie, LA – The New Orleans Saints on Wednesday tabbed offensive line coach Aaron Kromer as interim head coach for the first six regular season games.
Kromer will take over the job while linebackers/assistant head coach Joe Vitt serves his suspension.
Vitt was picked in April to assume the day-to-day coaching duties for the club while head coach Sean Payton serves his year-long suspension related to the NFL's bounty investigation. Vitt will begin to serve his own suspension at the conclusion of the preseason.
"He is very familiar with our team and with the methods we have been successful with," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said of Kromer. "Ultimately, I wanted to have the least amount of change with both the offensive and defensive staffs, and maintain the most continuity with the program that has been in place for the last six years."
Kromer, who is entering his fifth season with New Orleans, has served as offensive line coach since 2009.
Vitt will return as head coach leading up to the team's Week 8 contest against the Denver Broncos.
