Ronda Rousey v. Holly Holm rematch is in the works, UFC president confirms

The rematch is set – for the future.

UFC president Dana White confirmed that Ronda Rousey will have the opportunity to a rematch against Holly Holm for the bantamweight title she lost last month in Australia.

“Ronda Rousey has gone undefeated, taken the sport to another level, and was beating the best women in the world in 14 seconds or 30 seconds, so she deserves a rematch,” he said during an appearance on ESPN’s “Mike & Mike” radio show on Thursday. “Holly agrees she deserves a rematch, and we’ll figure it out.”

Rousey was shocked by Holm in November with a finishing kick to the head. Immediately after the fight, White said that booking a rematch would “make sense.”

“I think that if we didn’t make the rematch, me and (UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta) should probably lose our promoters’ license,” White said Thursday. “Yeah, that fight’s going to happen. I don’t know when, but that’s the fight that will happen.”

Currently, Rousey, who is of Venezuelan descent, is on a six-month medical suspension from UFC as she recovers from the fight. She has not publically commented on the fight since the loss other than writing a short message on social media that she would be back.

“I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time, but I’ll be back,” Rousey wrote on Instagram.
