Rockets' Beverley may have torn wrist ligament

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - On the day the Houston Rockets are getting Dwight Howard back in the lineup, the team received some concerning news about another of its starting players.

Head coach Kevin McHale told reporters on Wednesday that Patrick Beverley's recent wrist injury will sideline the point guard between 7-to-10 days before he's reevaluated.

Yahoo! Sports reported that Beverley tore a ligament in his left wrist during Monday's game at Indiana and that the team is currently determining whether the injury will require season-ending surgery.

The Rockets have yet to disclose any specifics about the injury other than stating that Beverley is out for Wednesday's game at New Orleans with a left wrist sprain.

"He is going to meet more people today and get a final determination as to what is going to happen," McHale said. "There probably won't be any major decisions made for a week (to) 10 days."

Considered the Rockets' best backcourt defender, Beverley also has averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 56 games (55 starts) this season.

Howard will play, albeit on a minutes restriction, on Wednesday. The All-Star center has sat out Houston's last 26 games because of a swollen right knee that required a bone marrow aspirate injection in early February.
