Rocco leaves liberty, takes job at Richmond

Danny Rocco has been named the head at Richmond and will be officially introduced at a press conference on Wednesday, the university announced Tuesday.

"I am pleased to welcome Coach Rocco and his family to the University of Richmond," said Richmond Athletic Director Jim Miller. "He is an experienced coach with a proven record of leadership both on the field and in the community. Coach Rocco is the right fit for Spider Football in an important time for our program."

Rocco has spent the past six seasons as the head coach at Liberty, guiding the Flames to a 47-20 overall record and a share of four consecutive Big South championships.

The hiring will make if four coaches in four seasons at Richmond. Mike London left after the 2009 season to take the head coaching job a Virginia, Latrell Scott resigned this past off season after being charged with a DWI, and interim coach Wayne Lineberg's 3-8 record and last place finish in CAA Football this season wasn't enough to keep the job.

For Liberty, a national search for Rocco's replacement will begin immediately.
