Report: Former Reds owner Carl Lindner Jr. dies

Carl Lindner Jr., who was the controlling 2005, passed away Monday night, according to a report on Cincinnati.com.

Lindner was hospitalized early Monday morning with trouble breathing and passed away later in the day. He was 92 years old.

He took over control of the Reds from controversial owner Marge Schott and was mostly known for completing the deal for Ken Griffey Jr. from the Seattle Mariners in 2000, even picking Griffey up at the airport from his own private jet in his Rolls-Royce.

The Reds went 543-592 during his tenure and recorded a winning season just twice in that span.
