The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the process of trimming their roster down. One of the more recent moves to catch the eye is the release of punter Michael Koenen, per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
Koenen was the Bucs punter for the past four seasons, but will now likely be replaced by Jacob Schum. The move makes a lot of sense, largely due to the fact that the Twitter account for PewterReport.com explained that the team saved a good bit of money by parting ways with Koenen.
Koenen was the veteran punter on the roster, while Schum was an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo back in 2013. Regardless, it seems that we have at least one positional battle decided in Tampa Bay.
