Redskins announce Hayward signing; ex-Steelers safety Ryan Clark among free agents to visit

The Washington Redskins have announced the signing of free agent special teams standout Adam Hayward.

The Redskins also Wednesday prepared to host three other free agents — safety Ryan Clark, cornerback Corey Graham and defensive end Antonio Smith — as they continued a modest approach to free agency despite money to spend after a 3-13 season.

Hayward agreed to terms shortly after free agency began on Tuesday, along with receiver Andre Roberts and guard Shawn Lauvao. The Redskins also re-signed linebacker Perry Riley and receiver Santana Moss.

The Redskins did not address their most glaring need — safety — on the first day. Ex-Redskins player Clark, who spent the last eight years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, could potentially fill one starting spot. He announced his visit to Washington on ESPN.
