Reds P Bailey to have Tommy John surgery

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cincinnati Reds announced on Friday that starter Homer Bailey is going to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Bailey's 2014 season ended prematurely when he had surgery on his elbow to repair a flexor strain, and he only made two starts in 2015 before being shut down again. In those two starts, he allowed a combined seven runs in 11 1/3 innings.

Bailey, 28, is in the second season of a five-year, $105-million contract. The Reds expect him to return at some point during the 2016 season.
