Red Wings activate Smith
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings have activated defenseman Brendan Smith from injured reserve and assigned defenseman Xavier Ouellet to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Smith missed the team's last five games with a hand infection after a fight on Nov. 18 at Columbus. The 25-year-old has two goals and four assists in 18 games this season.
Ouellet has appeared in five games for Detroit this season, recording one goal and one assist.
