Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with left big toe inflammation.
The 27-year-old Sweeney is hitting .292 with 17 doubles, 13 RBI and 19 runs scored in 52 games for Boston this year.
In addition, the Red Sox recalled outfielder Ryan Kalish from Triple-A Pawtucket. He is hitting .345 with five homers, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored in 15 combined contests between three different minor-league levels.
