Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid avoided a disappointing draw by claiming a 2-1 win over Elche at the Martinez Valero on Wednesday.

After a scoreless opening period, the Portuguese winger broke the deadlock with a free kick through the Elche wall in the 51st minute.

Madrid held the one-goal edge until the dying stages when Elche capitalized on some poor positioning from Pepe, which allowed Richmond Boakye to find space in the penalty area and head home a cross in stoppage time.

But the visitors still managed to claim all three points as Pepe was the beneficiary of a generous penalty decision a minute later. Ronaldo stepped up to convert the ensuing attempt, bringing his season tally to six goals in La Liga play.

Real Madrid has won two league contests on the bounce to improve to 16 points while Elche's two successive defeats leave the club on three points for the season.

Sevilla 4, Rayo Vallecano 1

Seville, Spain - Sevilla picked up its first La Liga win of the season on Wednesday, running out at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to a 4-1 victory over nine-man Rayo Vallecano.

Ivan Rakitic converted from the penalty spot in the 17th minute and added another in the 53rd minute before Adrian Gonzalez pulled one back for the visitors two minutes later.

Rayo was reduced to 10 men in the 66th minute when Alejandro Galvez was sent off, which helped Carlos Bacca restore Sevilla's two-goal lead with a strike in the 80th minute. Jonathan Viera was next to go for the visitors as he received his marching orders eight minutes from time, and Bacca completed the rout by sticking another past Rayo in the 88th minute.

Valencia 1, Granada 0

Granada, Spain - Valencia won its second straight La Liga match thanks to a 1-0 defeat of Granada at Los Carmenes on Wednesday.

Jonas produced the lone goal of the affair, scoring in the 90th minute to see the visitors improve to nine points on the season.

After starting its league campaign with a victory, Granada is winless in its last five outings to remain on five points.
